Caterpillar sees marine-engine sales dip

Caterpillar's marine engine sales were down in October, according to a report filed this week with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

According to its three-month dealer statistics, which are compared with the same months of the prior year, marine engine sales were down 25 percent last month and 8 percent in September, but up 13 percent in August.

For October, Caterpillar reported a decline in engine sales in all segments it covers, including truck and bus, electrical power and industrial.

Overall North American sales were down 58 percent in October, compared to 60 percent in September and 57 percent in August, the company reported.
