EPA postpones ethanol decision

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said it needs more time to decide whether to increase the amount of ethanol in gasoline up to 15 percent.

The federal agency was supposed to release its decision today on a waiver request by Growth Energy, a pro-ethanol lobby, for higher ethanol blends, but said it needed more time to review test data, according to a report by Reuters.

A decision is expected in mid-2010, the agency said on its Web site.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association, along with numerous other groups, warn higher ethanol blends could lead to serious performance, durability and emissions problems in recreational marine engines and boats and that more testing is necessary before any increase in the ethanol blend level can be permitted.

More than 30,000 marine industry employees, boaters and others submitted comments to EPA urging the agency to deny the waiver.

Man made Global Warming is a hoax, a fraud, brought about by a bunch of leftist, commie activist, that has now come out with the discovery of evidence out of Great Brittan. Therefore there is no need for we the American people to change our way of life, and throw our money away on this king of "rot". It is imperitive for us to contact our goverment with demands to stop this attitude that we could do anything to affect the worlds climate.

Sorry, with all due respect I do not belive that you can buy gas without ethanol, use this simple test; put a couple inches of water in the bottom of a glass beaker, mark the level, now fill the rest with the gas you suspect, give it a good shake or stir, let it sit for a while. as the water combines with the ethanol the water will rise above the mark.

We are being waterboarded by this bunch of "greenies" and it is now time to stop it, we must not be silent when these people talk to us, get educated and when we hear them, shout them down with the truth.

That's great news!!

The 10% blend has cost my customers thousands in repairs and it cost me the summer with my own boat.....   The 5.7 throttle body engines seem to get hit the worst because the fuel puddles in the intake manifold once the engine is shut down and fuel pressure is released.  The 10% blend turns into water/crap after sitting for a few months during the winter or off season and subsequently, destroys the valves when you fire up the engine again.

It has also killed the carbs on both Kohler and Westerbeke marine generators, my Honda generator, lawn mowers, weed eaters, leaf blower and my two ATVs.  I spent a ton of money repairing carbs and engines this season due to the ethenol.  Many of my customers had to spend alot of money on their carbs and many couldn't use their boats this season because of the affects of ethanol.  They just don't have the time or money to mess with the repairs.........

We all suffered a few years ago when 10% was first introduced as it cleaned the inside of the fuel tanks on everyone's boats and fouled the filters and fuel pumps.  I broke down on the James River while moving  a 40' Carver.  It took numerous fuel filters and finally two fuel pumps to get that boat running again.  This  happened to many of my customers with older boats.  Repair costs and towning expenses were phenominal.

The data is there..... Just ask anyone in the marine business.....  Add 5% more in an effort to be more green and you will find us out here replacing more engines, heads, pumps, carbs and burning up millions in resources and thus wasting more which is far from being green.....

The idea of blending in ethanol actually cost more in resources due to the things it destroyed.  In the end, we wasted more resources to produce the items that had to be replaced/repaired and many (like me) didn't even get to use their boats this season so they didn't contribute to revenue for the industry.

Gotta do more thinking and realizing the "cause and affect" of brilliant ideas like ethenol blend.

We must be lucky in Florida as we have 90 octane gasoline free of any ethanol. It is only available to marinas. I have been told that we should have this for many years.  In speaking to a lawn mower repair shop owner who is backed up for weeks on repairs, he said that ethanol was creating most of his work. I told him that he should tell his customers to buy gas at marinas. "I ain't never goin to tell them that" was his reply.
