NMMA opposes EPA’s emissions ruling

Earlier this week, Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lisa Jackson announced that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions pose a danger to the public, a move that could lead to a nationwide carbon cap regulation if Congress fails to enact climate legislation before the end of 2010, the National Marine Manufacturers Association reports.

The announcement, which was anticipated by the NMMA and others, finalizes an initial "endangerment finding" by the government earlier this year.

Jackson indicated that legislation is still the best way to tackle greenhouse gas emissions, but that EPA regulatory action can complement such legislation.

The NMMA, like virtually every industry group, strongly opposed an endangerment finding by EPA and greenhouse gas regulation under the Clean Air Act in formal comments late last year.

The NMMA has been able to secure language in both the House and Senate ensuring any new recreational marine engine and vessel regulations that may be promulgated by EPA under the climate change bill would be done within the non-road category.

"EPA back on track.,more than past time to limit CO2 production", we're not talking about clean waters or making a dent in what some believe is a man-made contribution to global warning.

What we're talking about is a U.N. derived initiative to transfer wealth from the US, Japan, and Western Europe to the former Eastern Bloc and 3rd world.   Do you really believe that these manfacturers are resisting these standards just because they're lazy or greedy?    They're resisting this because if they can't manufacture products here PROFITABLY (yes, we're still capitalists here), they will move the jobs and factories to the 3rd world which WILL NOT have to meet the same environmental and safety standards as U.S. facilities, thus creating more water-borne polution and greenhouse gases.

When we lose our remaining manufacturing base, along with the service industries that support it, the dollar will be worthless and so will your savings and investments (note that, trust fund babies).

So, when you and your family are living in a cardboard box, YOU WILL BE PRAYING FOR GLOBAL WARMING.

If the U.N. wants to implement global, consistent standards, I would support it despite my personal doubts on the global warming kool-aid festival.    But if the free, Western World has to make most, if not all the sacrifices, what point is it if we all share the same water and air?    Toxic emissions and dumping from Africa and Asia will make their way to our shores sooner or later.

Boating and a clean, healthy environment go hand in hand.

Every boater, boating family, water based community and water hungry tourist I know is happy that the EPA is finally back on the track of fishable, swimmable, sailable waters for all, free of the dangers of toxic emissions from their own and others' boats.

Surely, an industry as creative and as customer oriented as ours can be counted on to meet these challenges with effective emission controls and alternative power sources.

It's more than past time for limiting CO2 production.  Industry is only concerned with making money no matter the price the environment pays.  The French president is setting tough CO2 production standards for France.  The US needs to be a leader in saving the environment not a hinderance.

I hope that some of this legislation will have grandfather clauses for older boats. If we have to discard all engines in all boats that can't pass muster, we'll be looking at a massive need to replace all the boats out there with those that will meet the minimum EPA requirements. Sounds great for new boat dealers, but the fact that we'll all be taxed into oblivion will ensure that we can't affort new.

Maybe I should keep that rowboat....

I just got a package in the mail from a company that would like me to become a kayak and canoe dealer.  Maybe it's a sign.

Does anyone really believe that there is any science involved in these hoax rulings?  Given this corrupt administration, everything here too falls under the guise of political hacks and militant liberals.

Legislation, legislation, legislation, legislation, am I still allowe to breath?  I understand I should not drive, have a boat, dirtbike, etc. but if I just ride a bike everywhere I will be breathing more which is bad for the environment too.  Maybe we should all go into coma's
