Texas, Florida boat sales show some stability

November sales for all fiberglass boats, including personal watercraft, declined 17.2 percent last month, with Texas staying even with last year and Florida dropping 3.7 percent.

Fiberglass boats in the 14- to 30-foot segment were down 12.6 percent for the month, while aluminum boats sales fell in November by 17.4 percent.

PWC sales posted the largest decrease of 37.3 percent in the month.

The market for new boats continued to shrink in November, though retail activity in Texas and Florida was positive. While first-quarter 2010 activity is expected to remain soft, November declines are far less than last year and trending in the right direction.

These preliminary statistics include 29 early reporting states, which represent approximately 63 percent of the national market. Only states that currently provide weekly or monthly information are included in this summary.

Percentage change is presented on a calendar-year basis to reflect actual results.

With one out ten people looking for work..and tens of thousands of homes upside down, those who have some extra money are stashing it away instead of spending it on recreational items. There are still too many boat manufactuers for the number of consumers  who even if they are interested in purchasing a boiat find financing difficult to acquire. 2010 will be a dead year and 2011 won't be much better.
