Unemployment rate at 9.7 percent

The unemployment rate fell from 10 percent in December to 9.7 percent in January, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.

Employment dipped in construction, transportation and warehousing, while temporary help services and retail trade added jobs.

In January, the number of unemployed decreased to 14.8 million.

Here in Florida,boating mecca of the south the unemployment rate is more then 12 percent..hitting 15 percent in at least one gulf coast county and its expected mto continue its upward trend. This does not include those whose unemployment benefits have run out or who have given up looking for work
