Based on early reports, boat engines are not included on the list, but boats are included, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
Examples of other products included are American-made cars, refrigerators and other industrial and agricultural goods. These tariffs would be enacted 30 days from today.
In an encouraging development last week, U.S. secretary of state Hillary Clinton met with Brazilian foreign minister Celso Amorim to begin negotiations on this issue. The good news, the NMMA reports, is that both countries expect an agreement to be reached before the list becomes effective.
The NMMA says it will continue to work with coalition partners, the Obama administration and Congress to help find a solution for this dispute.
Wow!.... That's great. Brazil won't put trade tariffs on US made products. What do we sell Brazil that they don't already buy from China or Japan?
I'm surprised that Hillary didn't wave her arms and attach labels to the Brazillians, calling them protectionists. That is the excuse her husband used to allow the Chinese to crush our manufacturing. "We want the Chinese to be our friends", quipped Bill Clinton. "If we put trade tariffs on their products, they might revert back to communism". " We don't want to be called protectionists", cried Bill.
Does anyone remember that one of Hillary's campaign promises was," We need to bring our manufacturing jobs back to America". Funny how politicians forget what was promised when their faces are in the trough.
