Former Interlux VP dies at 85

Louis H. Munkelwitz, a former vice president and general manager of Interlux North America, died March 7 in Crossville, Tenn. He was 85.

Born Sept. 4, 1924 in Sayville, N.Y., Munkelwitz was a descendant of Daniel Tompkins, the sixth vice president of the United States under President James Monroe.

He graduated from Purdue University in 1946.

Prior to joining Interlux, Munkelwitz worked for the Harvey Hubbell Company and the Woolsey Paint Company.

He retired in 1980 and moved to Sarasota, Fla., where he became a consultant to the Pro-Line Marine Paint Co. He later consulted and assisted the Nautical Coatings Co. in establishing their products in the Bahamas and Caribbean Islands.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Crossville. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Salvation Army or to St. Alphonsus Community Services in care of the church.

"Uncle Lou" was a pioneer in the marine industry. He was a freind to all and a mentor to many. He had a personality that when you met him, you would not forget him. It is with profound sadness to hear that Lou has passed. I owe a great debt of gratitude for the menotring and development role that Lou played in my life. It was Lou who inspired me and pushed for me to join Interlux back in 1987. For this I will be forever grateful. LOUIS MUNKELWITZ YOU WILL ME MISSED.
