Bertram Yacht announced Alton Herndon as its new president.
"I am excited about the opportunity to join such a skilled and valuable team and look forward to working closely with the Ferretti Group in building first-class, top-quality sportfishing vessels," said Herndon. "Bertram has such a rich history and I am honored to become a part of it."
Herndon joins Miami-based Bertram, a brand of Ferretti Group, with more than 35 years of executive management experience, according to Bertram. He was president of Hatteras Yachts from 1985-1996 and held various roles in executive management positions with brands such as Palmer Johnson, Tiara Yachts, KCS International and was most recently co-founder and managing partner of Southport Boat Works based in Leland, N.C.
He has also served on numerous boards and committees, including as past member of the executive committee and board of directors of the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
Herndon studied business at High Point College and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Executive Program. He served as Battery Commander in the Army National Guard's 113th Artillery Division.
Herndon replaces Mike Myers, who had a short tenure as president.

Alton Herndon is a class act for sure. Bertram will certainly benefit from his many years of experience.
Congratulations Alton, on your new endeavor! and Congratulations Bertram for bringing him on board!
If you have ever spent any time with Alton, you know that any company would be very lucky to land this "living legend", good to see that good guys do win sometimes! Congratulations Bertram.
Are we referring to the guy known as "iron Mike"? If so, his short tenure as president, or any other position should come as no surprise to anyone.
Herndon is a class act from all I've heard. Well done Bertram.
