Sea Hunt steps up production

Sea Hunt Boats has increased its production to keep up with demand, the company reports.

"We are blessed; business is good and orders are steady. We have had to increase production to keep up with our dealers demand," Capt. Larry Jett, director of dealer development told Soundings Trade Only. "We have some great dealers working very hard, and our people here at Sea Hunt are determined to deliver high quality at a value price."

The Columbia, S.C., manufacturer has increased production from 20 to 25 boats a week and has added staff. Sea Hunt has 68 employees and 60 dealers.

"Winter shows are getting sales like pre-2007, and Statistical Surveys still has us as the No. 1 selling saltwater boat in our class three years running," Jett said.

Sea Hunt Boat Company began in 1995 when a father-son team started building center console fishing boats. By 2004 the company that started in a one-room shop had expanded to a compact plant. In March 2006 Sea Hunt began operations in a 170,000-square-foot facility.

Increased Production and Lowered Profits...

Sea Hunt INCREASED production to fill the orders for all the new dealers they have signed up...if management continues to flood markets with new dealers and inventory...they will end up like the rest of the high volume boat builders.

mdsf32:  Who in this industry is making a bundle off of anything today?  When high volume is the way you meet your overhead needs, what do you do when that volume goes away?  Sea Hunt is a product that a dealer can make a decent margin and still sell 100 or more a year.  Yet those dealers will be going to other product if Management continues in the direction of the past nine months.  And to Sea Hunt GF24, Joel and Jai are the most competent and capable company reps that I have ever been associated with.

Mingo: It is better to make a little off of many sales than to make a bundle off of one. Perhaps the other greedy manufacturers should think about this BEFORE they go out of business.

Amen.  Glad to see that I'm not the only long term Sea Hunt Dealer  that feels this same way.

That #1 ranking won't last long if they keep signing high volume, low margin dealers.  Great boat, great price, great value, but management is about to run it in a ditch.
