BMW Oracle plans for America’s Cup defense

America's Cup defender BMW Oracle Racing and challenger of record Mascalzone Latino have released information about the 34th Cup, and the next regatta likely will be held in 2013 or 2014.

Protocol for the regatta will be issued by Aug. 31, with the design rule released Sept. 30. The notice of race and sailing instructions will be published by Dec. 31, and the venue will be confirmed by this date as well.

The challenge period will be open from Oct. 1 through Jan. 31, 2011.

The syndicates confirmed that sites in the United States and Europe are being considered for the next Cup, though they noted a strong case has been put forward by San Francisco, home of the Golden Gate Yacht Club, whose burgee BMW Oracle sails under.
