Jobless claims dip moderately

The weekly Labor Department report on unemployment insurance claims showed the number of workers filing new applications for unemployment insurance fell less than expected last week, while the trade deficit widened slightly in April.

In the week ending June 5, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 456,000, a decrease of 3,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 459,000. The four-week moving average was 463,000, an increase of 2,500 from the previous week's revised average of 460,500.

Two ways of looking at this report....

1.  Good...Less people lost their job this week than last week.

2.  Bad...This far into the Great Recession of 2009, jobs are still being lost.
