Carver and Marquis rehire 250 workers

Carver and Marquis Yachts are bringing back 250 employees from layoff.

The former Genmar boat lines had been closed for about six months and were sold in a bankruptcy auction earlier this year. Carver and Marquis were bought by former Genmar founder Irwin Jacobs and his partner John Paul DeJoria though their company J&D Acquisitions.

Now it has recalled all but a handful of employees, company president Robert VanGrunsven told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The yacht market is still challenging, VanGrunsven said, but sales have improved overseas, especially in the Pacific Rim and Eastern Europe.
