Florida extends free fishing weekend program

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist announced another free fishing weekend - meaning no fishing license is required - to encourage people to get out and catch saltwater fish along Florida's coastline over Father's Day weekend.

The Tuesday announcement followed a Pensacola, Fla., briefing on the Gulf oil spill's impact to Florida waters, which included the governor and President Barack Obama.

"Extending a special, free fishing weekend is another reminder that Florida is still the fishing capital of the world," Crist said in a statement. "Our vast Gulf and Atlantic coastal waters are open for fishing and I encourage everyone, particularly fathers and their families, to take advantage of this free fishing weekend in Florida."
