West Marine seeks green-product entries

West Marine announced a call for entries for its second annual "Green Product of the Year" contest.

As part of West Marine's mission to reduce its impact on the environment, it continues to search for innovative green products and will award a grand prize of $10,000 to a designated official winner at the 2011 Miami International Boat Show.

The competition is free and open to individuals, manufacturers, distributors and/or inventors of boating products. Judges will select the winner on the basis of the product's effectiveness, environmental impact, degree of innovation and cost-effectiveness.

West Marine's "Green Product of the Year" in 2010 was Mercury Marine's MercMonitor, featuring the ECO-Screen.

West Marine only gives lip service to green products.  They demand large clamshell packaging for small products.
