Nordic Tugs to temporarily close Washington plant

Nordic Tugs announced that it will temporarily close its Burlington, Wash., manufacturing plant on Tuesday.

Most employees will be furloughed, according to a company statement, but a skeleton staff will remain to field customer inquiries and maintain the plant to keep it prepared to resume production when business improves.

The action "has been forced by the ongoing effects of the Great Recession and the reluctance of customers to order new boats," according to the manufacturer.

Nordic Tugs was founded in 1979 and builds tug-style yachts ranging from 26 to 54 feet that are sold through dealers in Europe and Asia, and across the United States.

OK so Bush wasnt the greatest, but he wasnt the worst.  The worst was Jimmy Carter, now replaced by this socialist incompetent idiot Obama.  If the Democrats have their way there will never be anymore wealth or rich people.  Corny to say, but I too, have never been given a job by a poor guy.  Cut taxes, reduce spending, cancel the health care bill, close the borders and shoot anyone trying to get across, deport illegals, heavily fine anyone hiring an illegal, vote in term limits.  These democrats are spending other peoples hard earned money, detroying our wealth and liveliehoods.  Obama, Pelosi, and Reid should be lined up a against a tree just like Niclolae Ceausescu the Romanian dictator a few years back.  Time to take our country back and by force if necessary.

Take a longer look at what got us here. When Bush 2 took office, there was a surplus, yes a surplus, in the US treasury. Within 2 years, that was given away to some really well off people. It must have been the rich, as I surely felt no relief in the billions and billions of tax cuts. The deregulated economy slowly sped out of control long before he finally left office, spending a billion a day on a no good reason war in Iraq. He fashioned the tarp to save the favored financial institutions before he left office. The war and the resession was dumped in Obama's lap to try to fix. A mere year and a half later you want to hang the guy because he didn't magically fix it in a day. Think about how much further along we might be if the opposition party agreed to work on the economic fixes instead of their cowardly "lets just vote no" on everything policy.

Easy. Fire the goverment workers. Start with FDA, HUD, EPA, ATF, Dept of the Interior, Dept of Energy, Dept of Anything, all Lt. Govenors ect. Answer your own phone, manage your own depts and if it's not able to support itself end of story.  I have to deal in the real world by products of these hacks. Things went down hill right after the Federalist. That's where the govenment spending started. The rest is history. All we have is the future and the future is now.

Florida history lesson time:

After the Indians, after Spain- there were originally 16 Colonies in N. America. The 14th was Canada. The 15th and 16th were East Florida and West Florida. These 3 remained loyal to England through the Revolutionary War.  The Indians would swap loyalty to whom ever offered them the best terms at the time so they switched back and forth between Spain, England and America before Andrew Jackson finally moved them out of Florida to Oklahoma in the very early 1800s.

So if one is a "Florida Patriot" -I can only assume your a British patriot?  Centuries later I ask the question- WHICH one was the true "winner"?  If ALL remained loyal to the Crown as did Canada, New Zealand, and Australia America would not be in it's situation would we?

Americans seem to want to blame the President for all woes, but he's NOT a King who can make individual decisions is he? You want democracy =you got democracy and unfortunately -the numbers of "have nots" have now out populated the "haves".  What are you going to do now? Time for a King who CAN make decisions?  Good luck that.

Alot of people here who hide behind "Macho Names" and belive Washington is the answer to their problems have yet to offer any sound business solutions. We need solid business recomendations not a bunch of crap from pissed off losers from the last election. Yea I voted for Obama..would I do it again..NO..but at the same time I realize politicians ..no mater what party..including Tea or coffee, are not going to bring us out of this recession for at least 3 to 5 years and in the meantime we have to come up with business survival solutions or continue to sink . That not only includes now but when things get better and we discover our customer base is 50% percent  or more less then when the big push for government de-regulation sent the ship headed for the bottom.

If you "keyboard commando's" only use fake names how can anybody take what you say seriously?  IF you're a true patriot then by all means shout out your real names with pride along with a way to contact you so one can start building your angry army. Then what?

Tragically another example of American manufacturing having to close their doors during these hard times.  We may all think that there will be a turn around in the political situation in Washington this fall, but unless and until we have some real leadership by the opposition, there will be no significant change.  We need for a leader to emerge in the Republican Party who can and will become our spokesman for change yet again.

We got change two years ago because of one man!  The opposition needs that kind of spokesman to get us turned around in the right direction. Reagan did it - Gingrich did it and now we HAVE to find their successor!

Yet another plant closing in our industry? I thought Biden said this was the "Summer of Recovery" for our economy. If you are an American regardless of oyur politics and worried about the future of our industry and the future of our economy maybe it is time you got off the couch and "Put your Boots on". Get involved and lets fix this thing before we are all out of business.

Those little boats were ungodly expensive for what they are.   This is just economic Darwinism. Buyers "vote" with their wallets what survives and dies.  No surprise this.  Consider the "recession" is perhaps nothing but common sense making a comeback.

"and the reluctance of customers to order new boats," according to the manufacturer."  Americans continue to vote "no confidence" with their checkbooks.  As long as our government continues to spend more money than it has in hand, "no confidence" will continue, and American factories will continue to be temporarily and then permanently shuttered.  The Obama administration reinforces "no confidence" by continuing this risky spending.  And also by communicating all that is wrong with America.  I believe America is the shining city on the hill, and Americans are the most generous people on planet earth.  We need a Reaganite, not an Obamanation, as our leader.

The days of easy loans and quick sales are over... Its time to buckel down and put some good old Americam backbone into it. Nordic Tugs will survive... they are a company that builds a solid vessel with a good reputation. Built in the U.S.A.

Nordic Tugs is still alive...avalible to service the new stock on the market. Others who own the boats can still count on the company for help.. Another Nordic Tug will be built in the near future, Im sure of that.

Move forward in a safe and positive manner.

We've seen these temporary closures here in KY in the houseboat industry. Unfortunately the "temporary" has a way of becoming permanent. I hope Nordic Tug is able to avoid that. The industry in Washington state seems to be especially hard hit. Are C-Dorys, Skagit Orcas, and Tom Cats still being built?
5 Monday, 30 August 2010 16:13
Florida Patriot has it correctly stated....the best thing that we can do subscribe to the motto...."One and done".  Get rid of the rascals in Washington.
4 Monday, 30 August 2010 16:03

I'm not only worried about the future of our industry, but for the United States of America! If we allow these terrorists some call politicians to continue in office this country is finished.

Let's hope we can survive until they are thrown out and the real Americans take the Country back.

"The Boots Are On"

3 Monday, 30 August 2010 15:59
I was down to the Cap Sante marina in Anacortes this weekend where Nordic has their sales office. They have about 20 boats at the dock, new and used. That is a LOT of inventory in a slow market. Let's hope they can pick back up, they are a major employer in our area.
2 Monday, 30 August 2010 15:58
Florida Patriot, I couldn't agree more. The country is in a serious downward spiral. If people don't wake up and do something (vote them out), the worst is yet to come......

Yet another plant closing in our industry? I thought Biden said this was the "Summer of Recovery" for our economy. If you are a conservative and worried about the future of our industry and the future of our economy maybe it is time you got off the couch and "Put your Boots on". Get involved and lets fix this thing before we are all out of business.
