Tropical Storm Hermine reaches Texas

Tropical Storm Hermine is moving inland over southern Texas this morning, spreading heavy rain and strong winds northward, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Hermine has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the mouth of the Rio Grande northward to Port O'Connor, Texas.

Hermine is expected to become a tropical depression later today, the hurricane center reports.

The storm is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of four to eight inches, with isolated maximum amounts of 12 inches possible from southern Texas northward through central and northern Texas and into Oklahoma.
