Bahia Mar will have new name after renovations

Fort Lauderdale's famed Bahia Mar Beach Resort & Yachting Center is undergoing renovations and will be renamed the Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach, a DoubleTree by Hilton hotel.

The hotel boasts a 250-slip marina and is home to the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

Renovations include a makeover of the property’s 296 guest rooms and suites, as well as a revival of the Commodore Ballroom. The makeover is scheduled for completion this fall.

“Fort Lauderdale continues to show positive, long-term potential as the city and its tourism partners continue to cultivate an outstanding leisure, business and convention destination. The Bahia Mar Fort Lauderdale Beach, a DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, will only build further on their fine tradition in the community by providing high standards of service and creating rewarding experiences for travelers from cities around the world,” Rob Palleschi, global head of the DoubleTree by Hilton brand, said in a statement.

Bahia Mar will always be Bahia Mar.
I can't see approaching the marina in my boat and hailing, "Bahia Mar, Fort Lauderdale Beach, a Double Tree by Hilton Hotel- come in"

I hate to see the reference to the marina (Yachting Center) removed. I'm sure it will be a nice hotel with the upgrades, but the marina put the facility on the map and I had hoped the owners would have continued that recognition.

We will miss the name "Bahia Mar" Marina. For many years we stopped there preparing for the next race of the SORC and had a great time. Wonderful people and great Marina. Love the Ft. Lauderdale Beaches, and the beautiful Women. Good luck and hope to visit again when your done.
Thank you,
Les Stowe
