West Marine marks grand opening with fundraiser

The West Marine Fort Lauderdale Boating Superstore celebrated its grand opening by hosting "Cruising for a Cause," which allowed local marine charities to raise funds for their programs.

The event raised $27,800 for the 13 non-profits involved.

Benefiting charities included BoatUS Foundation; Nova Southeastern University Oceanographic Center; Guy Harvey Foundation; Shake-A-Leg Miami; Veterans Ocean Adventures; Freedom Waters Foundation; Miami Dolphin Foundation; Hook the Future; Snook & Gamefish Foundation; Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club; Cry of the Water; The International SeaKeepers Society; and Marine Industry Cares.

“We have received a tremendous outpouring of support from the community for our new flagship store, and we sure appreciate it,” West Marine CEO Geoff Eisenberg said in a statement. “In keeping with the company’s mission of conserving marine habitats and supporting local marine non-profits, we knew that hosting Cruising for a Cause during our grand opening was a great way to give back to the community.”
