Hall Spars ships record-setting spar

Hall Spars, of Bristol, R.I., recently shipped what it said is the longest mast ever produced in the town.

The mast for the Wally 50m sailing yacht measures 66.7m (218.83 feet), eclipsing the “record” set by the mast for Reliance, built by Bristol's Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. to defend the America’s Cup in 1903.

Because of its length, the mast tube was shipped in two pieces. Hall's carbon technicians will travel to the Wally Yachts factory in Fano, Italy, at the end of February to complete the joining of the structure, utilizing Wally's facility. Stepping and sail trials are expected at the end of March.

Hall's previous longest mast is the 59.5m spar on Saudade.

Hall Spars & Rigging operates three manufacturing centers on three continents. Factories are located in Bristol, R.I.; Breskens, Holland; and Auckland, New Zealand.
