Massachusetts finishes boating-access projects

Massachusetts recently completed 18 projects that aim to give greater boat access to the state’s lakes, rivers and coastal areas.

The state Department of Energy and Environmental Affairs said the work was valued at about $970,000, according to The Boston Globe. It said the work had been done in communities spanning the state — from Barnstable, to Webster, to Chicopee.

The work included the construction of new boat ramps and barrier-free fishing piers and renovations to parking areas.

Department of Fish and Game Commissioner Mary Griffin said that more than 1 million Massachusetts residents and visitors are recreational boaters and fishermen.
