ABYC hosts electrocution webinar

In response to recent electrocution tragedies that left four children dead in two separate incidents, the American Boat and Yacht Council is hosting a free webinar Wednesday titled “Electric Shock Drowning ... the Invisible Killer.”

The webinar will be held at 1 p.m. EDT Wednesday.

Presenter Kevin Ritz, an ABYC instructor and electric shock drowning expert, will give the presentation in an effort to familiarize unsuspecting people with the dangers of electrocution.

Topics include real-life stories, mechanics of electric shock drowning, detecting electrical current in waterways and prevention.

The webinar is geared to marina owners/operators, land and marine electricians, boat owners, insurance companies, investigators, first responders such as fire, rescue and Coast Guard personnel and anyone who spends time on, in or around fresh water.

There is a little gizmo you can dangle close to the surface and it will detect stray current. Anybody know where to get one.
