Gallery honors Hudson River boatbuilding history

An exhibit paying tribute to the history of boatbuilding and boat repairs in the Hudson River area will take place through March 9 in White Plains, N.Y.

The building and repair of boats and ships of all sizes has long been a vital part of occupational culture during the history of the Hudson River area. Although the construction of boats has changed dramatically through the years, the art of traditional boatbuilding is being revived at key educational sites in New York.

Reflecting 200 years of maritime tradition, the exhibition will profile master craftsmen, their tools and the landmark boatyards where they work, historical timeline displays, models and actual boats they have built.

The project was made possible with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Humanities and the New York State Council on the Arts. It is presented by ArtsWestchester, in collaboration with Long Island Traditions.
