The Waterways Journal, a marine publications company in business since 1887, said industry veteran Brad Kovach joined its full-time staff as director of custom publishing and online content.

“We’ve been looking to expand our business in the areas of custom publishing and digital media. Brad brings with him more than 15 years of experience in the magazine and marketing fields, focusing on the marine and travel industries,” owner H. Nelson Spencer said in a statement. “He’s a great fit for our team, as evidenced by the exciting editorial direction he has provided to our magazine HeartLand Boating over the last year.”

Kovach has been the freelance editor of HeartLand Boating since March 2012 and has also written and edited for a number of consumer publications, including Boating World, Caribbean Travel & Life, ShowBoats International, Cabin Life, Motor Boating and Yacht Essentials.

As part of his new position, Kovach will continue as editor of HeartLand Boating and will be responsible for the publishing of Quimby’s Cruising Guide, an annual guide for recreational boating on the Mississippi River and its tributaries. He also will seek to add to the company’s stable of custom publishing clients, which include Marinalife and United Marine Underwriters.

“I’m excited to join such an accomplished company in the field and the industry that I love,” Kovach said in a statement. “I look forward to growing Waterway Journal’s already excellent portfolio of products and services.”
