Marine technicians hold annual meeting in Florida

The Association of Marine Technicians completed its 20th annual National Marine Service Expo Jan. 18-21 in Ormond Beach, Fla.

Training was held on the WyoTech campus.

“The overall enthusiasm of the attendees this year was very positive,” Amtech president Joe De Marco said in a statement.

The training event lasted four days. Technicians chose from a variety of 8-hour courses, such as outboard direct fuel-injection systems from Mercury, Yamaha and Evinrude; CAN bus; electrical systems; Mercruiser sterndrives; and personal watercraft.

This year, the association added two new courses that are part of the Amtech technician specialist program: Outboard Rigging and Installation, presented by Todd Larson, Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College; and Principles of Troubleshooting, presented by Jarrett Young, Yamaha Motor Corp.

Outboard Rigging and Installation is now a required course for a technician to obtain outboard specialization status from Amtech, and Principles of Troubleshooting is a prerequisite course that is required for both the outboard and inboard specialist tracks.

The Amtech specialist program recognizes technicians who have successfully met the standards of Amtech training. Online exams for all Amtech courses will be available this spring.

While I am a gun enthusiast myself (I own close to 50 rifles and shotguns), I do not see the reasoning to interject social and political opinions that do not relate to boats or boating. Keep the guns ads off of website and communications.

sincerely,

Louis Grignon
