Position: General Manager of the Boothbay Region Boatyard

“Service in the Maine Tradition” This is a rare opportunity to be a leader in one of New England’s premier boatyards. The General Manager will manage the day-to-day operations of the boatyard and its associated personnel. The General Manager is to guide the organization as it continues to strive to offer exceptional service to its customers. The General Manager will manage the various departments – paint, glass, mechanical, electrical, rigging, carpentry and waterfront. Main responsibilities include selling work, estimating, project management, team building and motivation. The GM must well versed in repairing boats to ABYC, Coast Guard and NMMA standards. Excellent communication skills required; boat handling skills desirable.

Candidates must have at least 5 years senior service yard management experience. Candidates must have experience and proven record of successful results at an established boatyard that offers a comparable service experience to owners of vessels 10 to 80 foot and a proven track record of P&L responsibility and enhancing shareholder value. Candidate should have a keen grasp of financial management including maximizing cash flow and meeting budgets and an appreciation for and an acumen at analytical skills. Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to interface effectively with Company ownership, boatyard employees, and boat owners/captains of the vessels, and have particular experience in providing premier service to high net worth customers. Boat handling skills is a plus. Candidate should be technically proficient in one area of refit and must have knowledge of other departments in addition. Candidate must possess integrity, strong references and be accountable for both the positive and negative events that occur within the boatyard operations. Candidate must possess even temperament and be able to lead, both strategically and through “hands-on” management of boatyard personnel. Candidate must be able to identify additional talent needs and create a plan to go out and recruit this talent as needs arise. Candidate must display energy, drive and ambition. Any certifications in the service/refit world, such as with contemporary propulsion technology and motor yacht service relationships, mechanical engineering and yacht refinishing would be highly valued by the Company. This candidate must be able to quote on prospective service/refit jobs, project manage the workflow and complete projects to clients’ satisfaction working with software tools, currently DockMaster.
There will be a competitive compensation package including a bonus program and completive benefits package. Vacation is negotiable and Company will pay for relocation of candidate to the area (full coverage of the movement of goods), as well as temporary relocation assistance and permanent real estate selection. Housing is an option. The compensation package will be commensurate with experience and motivating.
