Anglers Journal was named a finalist in min’s Best of the Web Awards in the digital excellence category, along with People.com and AFAR Media.
The category winner will be announced Tuesday in New York. The Best of the Web Awards is the industry's top honor in the digital space, recognizing outstanding social media, web and mobile initiatives among consumer and business-to-business magazines, min said.
Anglers Journal and Soundings Trade Only are owned by Active Interest Media.
The award-winning quarterly magazine Anglers Journal debuted in the winter of 2014. Folio named it one of the 30 hottest startups of the year. Anglersjournal.com was launched in January 2016 to expand the brand through video, powerful photography and design, and compelling online storytelling, editor-in-chief Bill Sisson said.
“Anglersjournal.com attracts active and passive anglers of all stripes,” Sisson said. “We’re young, and our online audience is growing quickly. It’s an exciting time. We have a small, nimble web team led by digital editor John Turner. John’s understanding of the brand and his creative skill set have really helped to make the site one of a kind.”
“Being recognized by min for the work we’re doing on anglersjournal.com is really validating, especially when you look at the size of the digital teams we are up against,” managing editor Dan Harding said.
“Perhaps the only thing more rewarding is the interaction we have with readers via the comments section of the site. Visitors will see something on the site that prompts them to comment about a fishing memory from childhood or something that happened on the water yesterday. That’s the ultimate success. It’s pretty cool to help spark conversations between readers and viewers throughout the fishing community.”
The new recognition comes on the heels of Folio and Boating Writers International awards for Anglers Journal.
