Producers of the Providence (R.I.) Boat Show reported a 10 percent rise in attendance and sales about equal to last year’s show.

Held Jan. 29-Feb. 1 at the Rhode Island Convention Center, the show featured more than 200 exhibitors displaying powerboats, sailboats, personal watercraft and inflatables, as well as gear, technology, engines and electronics.

“Saturday attendance is up by about 30 percent, while Thursday and Friday totaled just about the same as 2008,” show director Nancy Piffard said in a statement. “Sunday attendance saw an uptick as well, but with Saturday always being the biggest day of the show, overall attendance is likely to be up at least 10 percent once all the ticket sales are counted.”

In related news, the Rhode Island Marine Trades Association said its pavilion, which featured information about marine industry careers, was well-attended by people of all ages and job levels.
