Chicago show reports attendance boost

The Progressive Insurance Chicago Boat, Sports and RV Show closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, attracting 37,817 visitors, an increase of 8 percent from 2013.

Although heavy snow hit the Windy City on Saturday, affecting the gate, organizers said attendance was steady throughout the show’s five-day run.

“The mood of our exhibitors was generally positive, most reporting a great show with strong sales and a number of solid leads,” show manager Keith Ogulnick said in a statement. “We also heard positive reports from several of the RV dealers who met with interested, quality buyers. The 2014 show was the largest it’s been in five years, and the quality and number of product and companies exhibiting at the show drew out the crowds.”

Steve Weith, of Garmin, said people were glad to see electronics included in the show again.

“We were extremely impressed with this year’s attendance. We sold a mixture of product … large, small, deckboats and pontoons at the show,” said Mike Porreca of Skipper Bud’s.
