Florida flea market expects all exhibitor space to be sold


With less than three weeks before the Dania Marine Flea Market in Dania Beach, Fla., organizers are anticipating a sellout of vendor spaces.

“At this time, 87 percent of the vendor booth spaces have been sold,” event coordinator Jennifer Dudas said in a statement. “With many marine-related companies now occupying multiple spaces, we anticipate a sellout. When the gates open, more than 300 vendors from across the U.S. and Canada will be liquidating used, overstocked and obsolete nautical items at a fraction of their retail value.”

During the March 14-17 event, thousands of boating- and fishing-related items will be bought and sold through a system of dickering and dealing. “Some shoppers travel hundreds of miles to find elusive parts for vintage outboard motors. Others are looking for antique fishing tackle,” Dudas said.

The flea market offers an informal atmosphere where shoppers can enjoy a variety of food and drink while they wander the aisles.

From a small group of marine businesses selling used boating equipment on the parking lot at Dania Jai Alai in 1979, the flea market has grown to be the largest event of its type anywhere in the world, organizers said. The annual event provides an outlet for private individuals and marine-related businesses to sell everything from used equipment to new boats, fishing tackle, diving gear and marine artwork.
