Florida marine flea market opens Thursday

Dania Beach Marine Flea Market organizers said they have sold all available vendor spaces well in advance of Thursday’s opening.

“This is our first year at Mardi Gras Casino, and the Marine Flea Market has a fresh new look and totally different layout,” event general manager Jennifer Dudas said in a statement. “Gauged by the pace of vendor space sales and comments from longtime vendors, everyone likes the new venue and different arrangement.”

For the last 36 years, the Marine Flea Market has had a unique informal, party-like atmosphere and that relaxed style is enhanced by the “Mardi Gras" theme of the property, organizers said.

From a small group of marine businesses selling used boating equipment on the parking lot at Dania Jai Alai in 1979, the Dania Beach Marine Flea Market has grown to be the largest event of its type anywhere in the world, organizers said.

“The reason is quite simple,” Dudas said. “The Marine Flea Market continues to provide a cost-effective venue to sell used, overstocked and obsolete nautical items to the boating public. And since every boater, fisherman and diver loves a bargain, thousands of boating-related items are bought and sold over the four days through a system of dickering and dealing at a fraction of their retail value.”

Gates will open at 9 a.m. Thursday through Sunday.
