Maine Boatbuilders Show opens today

The Maine Boatbuilders Show, which draws a loyal "tribe" of annual visitors, returns today to the Portland Company Marine complex in Portland and runs through the weekend.

The collection of more than 100 vessels on display includes finely crafted fiberglass and wooden custom boats from the East Coast — sailboats, powerboats, canoes, kayaks, rowing boats and boating equipment — with the builders there to discuss and sell their work.

Now in its 26th year, the show is produced by Portland Yacht Services and its owners, Joanna and Phineas Sprague.

"This is wall-to-wall eye candy for those who love boats," Phin Sprague told the Portland Press Herald.
