The Newport Spring Boat Show will host a May 16 workshop called "Creative Ways to Afford a Boat" to help new and used boat buyers figure out how to get financing in today's market.

Representatives from a bank and a finance company, as well as a marine-specialist insurance agent, will be on hand to discuss the present loan environment, plus financing-based insurance requirements, and help buyers go about the process successfully.

Following general presentations, appointments can be set up to speak privately with the experts to cover details about an individual's boat-buying plans and develop a funding strategy.

The show also features a consignment tent where manufacturers, dealers and individuals will be selling new and used boating items at bargain prices. Partial proceeds will benefit the Seaman's Institute.

Nearly 200 boats - from dealers as well as brokers - are expected to be on hand at this year's Newport Spring Boat Show, which runs May 15-17.
