National Marine Manufacturers Association president Thom Dammrich is scheduled to speak on Sept. 12 at the opening-day press conference of the Newport (R.I.) International Boat Show.

The annual state-of-the industry press event will be held from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. in the Sunset Terrace on the show grounds and will be open to show attendees.

Sail Newport executive director Brad Read will provide an update on the Newport stopover of the 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race. The press conference will conclude with remarks by Newport Mayor Harry Winthrop.

“We are pleased to welcome this year’s speakers to what is shaping up to be an exciting show,” Newport Exhibition Group director Tom Delotto said. “The mayor’s participation and the Volvo Ocean Race’s interest in our town are a testament to Newport’s strong and significant ties to the marine industry. We are encouraged by the number of exhibitors and strong showing of boats, and we look forward to hearing the latest from Thom Dammrich on the industry’s growth and what the future holds.”

Expected to draw tens of thousands of people, the show will be held Sept. 12-15 on the Newport waterfront along America’s Cup Avenue. One of the largest in-water boat shows in the country, the event will host nearly 750 exhibitors from around the world with an assortment of boats of every type and style from 15 to 85 feet and accessories, equipment, electronics, gear and services for boaters.

Online tickets are available through www.newportboatshow.com. Children under 12 are admitted free any day when they are accompanied by an adult.

On Sept. 13 only, visitors with a valid military or Newport County resident ID receive half-price admission.
