Pacific Marine Expo starts next week

Maritime and fishing industry leaders from 40 states and 17 countries will gather in Seattle next week for the 42nd annual Pacific Marine Expo.

The expo runs Nov. 19-21 at the Seattle's Qwest Field Event Center.

"If you're in the marine industry, the expo is the place to be," said Mike Lodato, vice president of expo producer Diversified Business Communications, in a statement. "It is the best opportunity of the year to reach key decisions within the commercial marine industry."

The Pacific Marine Expo serves all aspects of the market, including commercial vessels owners, commercial fishermen, boatbuilders, workboat operators and seafood processors.

The event's keynote speaker is University of Washington research scientist Dr. Trevor Branch. He will discuss rebuilding global fisheries and a new study of the world's fisheries that found that management efforts, especially in developmentally advanced nations, have been effective in reversing declines caused by chronic overfishing.

This year's conference program includes four tracks covering the issues facing the industry today: workboat, fisheries/fisheries business, processing and safety.

Featured panel presentations include ''Building Business and Driving Sales with the Captains and Crew of Deadliest Catch," "Klamath River Dam Removal: Salmon Revitalization?," and "Taking it to the Streets: How to Tell the Fishermen's Story to the Consumer?"
