Sail America names keynote speaker for June conference

Dawn Riley, executive director of Oakcliff Sailing, will present the keynote address during Sail America's June 9-11 Industry Conference at the Charleston (S.C.) Harbor Resort & Marina.

Riley will speak on June 10 at 8:45 a.m. Her presentation is titled "Be the Force of Change — Every Day and in Every Way."

The first woman to manage an America's Cup campaign, Riley will use the keynote as a call to action, Sail America said. Oakcliff Sailing, a training and coaching center based in New York, builds leaders through sailing and is seeing tremendous growth from non-traditional markets. With this in mind, Riley wants to "blow open the norms, take control and change the face of our sport," Sail America said.

"Dawn is the perfect person to start off the conference," Sail America association manager Peter Durant said in a statement. "Her energetic, real approach will open attendees' eyes to how we can change the face of sailing."

Later the same day, Riley will moderate a panel focused on emerging markets in the sailing industry, as well as how to market to women, who remain an untapped purchasing demographic. Other panel members include Margaret Podlich, of BoatUS, and Katie Pettibone, of the Rising Tide Leadership Institute.
