Westport, Conn.-based Longshore Sailing School recently celebrated the rental of its 100,000th boat.

Brian Newsome of Westport got a surprise when he returned his rented Hobie Getaway to the school on the afternoon of July 4. He was showered with confetti and balloons, saluted by horns and greeted by an assembly of staff members.

The milestone coincided with the sailing school's 50th anniversary celebration during the holiday weekend.

Newsome, a graduate of the school's adult class curriculum, has rented catamarans for years, the school said.
