This roundup of upcoming shows and events includes news from the Antique & Classic Boat Festival and the 2013 Toronto International Boat Show.

The 30th annual Antique & Classic Boat Festival will return Aug. 25-26 to Brewer Hawthorne Cove Marina in Salem, Mass.

The fleet of more than 40 vintage boats to be showcased ranges from elegant cabin cruisers from the 1920s to a variety of sleek mahogany runabouts and sailboats, including sloops, yawls and schooners.

Many owners invite the public aboard to share stories about how they acquired their boat, its history and voyages, and the joys and woes of restoration.

“Although many of these vintage vessels are museum-quality, they are real boats, in the water, and in use by their owners today,” festival coordinator Pat Wells said in a statement. “It’s magical strolling amongst the wooden masts and elegant varnished hulls. One feels transported to another more aesthetic, gracious era.”

The festival is more than boats. Other highlights include a crafts market, exhibits, children’s activities and the Blessing of the Fleet. Traditional music will be performed live throughout the show.

One of the biggest boats on display will be a 1958 Matthews power cruiser.

Piggybacked on the boat, named Hardy Boy, will be the smallest boat, Madeline Claire, a 4-foot dinghy built by the owner for his 5-year-old granddaughter, who qualifies as the show’s youngest classic boat owner.

Canadian Boat Shows announced that Adastra Media, in association with Kerrwil Publications Ltd., was named the official show guide supplier for the 2013 Toronto International Boat Show, which is scheduled for Jan. 12-20.

The group is also the official show guide supplier for the 2013 Vancouver International Boat Show, slated for Feb. 7-11, and it publishes Boating Industry Canada, Canadian Yachting and Canadian Yachting West magazines. The company’s print platforms are available in digital format and online, and the group publishes numerous websites, all with weekly or monthly newsletters.

“Our team brings more than 50 years’ experience in the Canadian marine industry,” Canadian Yachting president John Kerr said in a statement. “And as a partner with the Toronto International Boat Show we intend to lever all our media platforms in support of pre-show awareness and attendance strategies.”

Owned and produced by Canadian Boat Shows, the Toronto show will celebrate 55 years in 2013.
