Shows and Events

This roundup of upcoming shows and events includes news from the Women's Sailing Convention, the Tampa (Fla.) Tribune Outdoors Expo & Boat Show and the Fall Jersey Shore Boat Sale & Expo.

A sailing convention for women is set for Saturday at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club in Corona del Mar, Calif.

BoatU.S. is the primary sponsor of the 22nd annual Women's Sailing Convention, presented by the Southern California Yachting Association.

The event is open to all women and the 2011 program offers workshops on and off the water. The dinner speaker will be Janna Cawrse Esarey, author of "The Motion of the Ocean: One Small Boat, Two Average Lovers and a Woman's Search for the Meaning of Wife."

"This is a great event for women to learn and ask every question they have always wanted an answer to in a very relaxed learning environment," event organizer Gail Hine said in a statement.

The Tampa (Fla.) Tribune Outdoors Expo & Boat Show, which runs March 4-6, celebrates 20 consecutive years.

The expo, held at the state fairgrounds, will feature continuous hands-on, how-to entertainment, presentations from outdoors experts and a boat show in a family-friendly country-fair atmosphere. This year's event includes dozens of boat dealers and more than 150 exhibitors.

Tampa Tribune outdoors correspondent Frank Sargeant is the official host. He is a past president of the Florida Outdoors Association and the author of more than a dozen books.

"The expo has something for everyone," Sargeant said in a statement. "From the smallest angler to teens, to Mom and Dad, we'll have an amazing selection of seminars, outdoors activities and merchandise."

The third annual Fall Jersey Shore Boat Sale & Expo will take place Sept. 23-25 at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, N.J.

The event will feature new and used boats and accessories for sale by local marine retailers, including new 2012 models. The event is organized by the Marine Trades Association of New Jersey. Its focus is on affordability and accessibility for the consumer and for exhibitors; the cost to exhibit and attend is low.

The association also said the New Jersey Boat Sale & Expo will run March 1-4, 2012 at the New Jersey Convention & Exposition Center & Raritan Center in Edison.

"The MTA/NJ is continuously striving to address the needs and issues of all of our members and their most important interests, including boat shows. As such, we have committed to making sure that there are affordable and successful local boat shows to support our boat dealer members, as well as all those that provide related goods and services," MTA/NJ president Rick Traber said in a statement.

"These shows are a result of that commitment and will not only help our dealers and members sell their products and services, but will help to strengthen the association and the entire industry," he added.
