Shows and Events

This roundup of upcoming shows and events includes news from Bavaria Yachts USA, the Southwest Florida Marine Industries Association and the Florida Yacht Brokers Association.

Bavaria Yachts USA is partnering with the 19th Annapolis Leukemia Cup Regatta as a presenting sponsor. The annual charitable event will be hosted Saturday by the Eastport Yacht Club.

“We are thrilled to team up with the Annapolis Leukemia Cup Regatta in support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society,” Bavaria Yachts USA managing director Kenny Feld said in a statement. “It’s a great opportunity for us as a new company in Annapolis to be involved with a community event that raises funds for such a far-reaching cause.”

The program includes a private audience with Russell Bowler, vice president of Farr Yacht Design, designer of the new Cruiser models, followed by boat demonstrations and a grandstand view of the racing on the Chesapeake.

The doors to Bavaria Yachts will open to the public at 2 p.m. The regatta draws to a close with the Bavaria Yachts USA All Hands Crew Party. It includes an awards ceremony where the top fundraising boat will be awarded the Leukemia Cup.

The regatta is part of a nationwide series of regattas to raise money for the society. More than 100 sailboats and 500 crew will take part in the one-day program while raising funds for the fight against blood cancers.

The Southwest Florida Marine Industries Association’s new boating awareness event is set for Saturday and Sunday at the Fort Myers City Yacht Basin in downtown Fort Myers.

With free admission, “Welcome to the Water” is designed to educate the public about boating in southwest Florida.

“Southwest Florida is one of the finest and most diverse boating areas in the country,” association president Tom Hansen said in a statement. “Boating, fishing, diving, kayaking, canoeing and many other water-sports activities are available in one form or another to almost everyone in our community. I don’t think people have any idea of the opportunities available to get out on the water. We hope our first ‘Welcome to the Water’ event will help get that word out.”

There will be displays by local boating groups, marine businesses, government agencies and other organizations that offer boating information to the public.

There also will be boats in the water, and limited free boat rides will be available to the general public.
