Sail magazine announced that Ryan Glaze of Rockwall, Texas, and the crew of his Melges 24 won its 2011 Best Around the Buoys contest and will race Jan. 15-20 in the J/80 class at Quantum Key West Race Week.

Now in its second year, Best Around the Buoys is Sail’s grassroots racing initiative to reward sailors for their team’s performance at the local racing level and encourage them to set a goal of racing on the national level.

Glaze's team won a number of regattas, including the Texas Independence Day, the Black Tie and the George Griffith regattas. They competed in all of them in Glaze's Melges 24.

According to Sail publisher Josh Adams, Glaze and his crew won out over 80 BAB entries because of their on-the-water performance at the local level.

Glaze's winning Best Around the Buoys team will receive free entry to Quantum Key West Race Week 2012, housing, dockage and the use of a brand-new J/80 equipped with hardware and sailing gear from Harken, a new set of North Sails, bottom paint supplied by Pettit Paint and membership benefits from US Sailing.
