The seventh annual South West International Boat Show, the only in-water show held in Texas, opens at noon today on Clear Lake in Bay Area Houston with more than 400 boats on display in the water and onshore.

Presented by The Yacht Sales Co., the show will continue through Sunday and feature a wide selection of boats ranging from 10 to more than 100 feet, including motoryachts, powerboats, pontoon boats, cruisers, sportfishing boats, trawlers, bay boats, ski boats, sailboats, catamarans and a trimaran. Organizers said many of the boats will be available for demonstrations at the docks.

More than 200 vendors will offer services and products for the boating and outdoor lifestyle, including fishing gear, engines, apparel and outdoor equipment, along with a full range of marine electronics, products and accessories.

Organizers said a seminar program will feature free hourly seminars for show visitors and will be offered across the four days of the show. The seminars are hosted by industry experts, authors and world travelers and will take place on site at the South Shore Harbour Resort Hotel.

The seminars will cover topics that include visiting Mexico by private boat — a guide to entry requirements at Mexican marinas; women and cruising; sailing made easy — beginning sailing techniques; Galveston Bay fishing tactics; storm/steering drogues and para-anchors; how to plan your boat’s energy usage; yacht, cabin and flotilla charters worldwide — highlighting the Greek islands; cruising the Mediterranean; and how to buy a new or used boat.

New this year are advanced educational seminar workshops. The full- and half-day workshops are being offered on weather; couples cruising; and understanding your electrical systems and boat maintenance.

Show-goers also can sign up with Discover Boating for one of its on-water hands-on skills training programs.

Hours will be noon to 7 p.m. today (with an opening ceremony at 12:30 p.m.); noon to 7 p.m. on Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Single-day tickets are priced at $13 for adults; $11 for members of the military and seniors; $5 for children ages 6 to 14 (who must be accompanied by an adult); and free for children ages 5 and younger.

An adult two-day pass costs $20.
