The 39th annual Norwalk Boat Show opened Thursday at the southwestern Connecticut port city’s Norwalk Cove Marina and will continue through Sunday.

More than 400 boats and 250 accessory exhibitors will be on hand.

"The Norwalk area is a big boating area and it's not just Norwalk itself," Norwalk Boat Show manager Joe Priko told "It's a regional show."

"It really does provide that quality time in a beautiful setting, where people can breathe and just be," Connecticut Marine Trades Association executive director Kathleen Burns said. "It's just a wonderful recreation."

Along with regional dealerships, marinas and boatyards, dozens of national and international boat brands, including Beneteau, Boston Whaler, Carver, Cobalt, EdgeWater, Ferretti, Formula, Hinckley, Hunt and Southport will be exhibiting at the show.

Watch for a report on the show in Monday’s Trade Only Today.

Ninety-five percent of marine dealers say they waited at least a month to get new-boat orders filled in August, and 35 percent say they experienced lead times of more than three months.

Consumer confidence at record highs

The economic indicator that Navico CEO Leif Ottosson watches first and foremost is consumer confidence, and The Conference Board’s measure of the American consumer’s mood delivered good news to Navico and the rest of the recreational marine industry at the end of August.
