Winter boat show roundup


Walker Bay Boats reported a 27 percent increase in dollar sales at the recent Toronto boat show.

While actual unit sales were down from 2009, the deluxe console and luxury models sold in increased numbers.

The company does not release specific figures, but did say that on the last day it wrote up $155,000 in sales.

"The 2010 Toronto Boat Show was the first opportunity for us to get a feeling of where the market is at and what we can expect for the remaining shows," said Chris Carroll, vice president of sales, in a statement. "Although attendance was noticeably down, the quality of the consumer was extremely good."

Console RIBs saw the biggest growth in volume sales, the company reports. In addition, the luxury style Generation RIBs saw a significant increase in both customer interest and purchases.

The 22nd annual Yacht & Brokerage Show, which runs concurrently with the Miami International Boat Show, is playing host to a number of first-time exhibitors, organizers report.

The show, which features more than 150 exhibitors, runs Feb. 11-15 on Collins Avenue and the Indian Creek Waterway.

Some of the first-time exhibitors include Maritimo USA, Grand Banks Yachts, The Egg Harbor Group and Nordhavn Yachts.

The Yacht & Brokerage Show offers free admission to the public and features new and used yachts ranging from 30 to 160 feet. The show is owned and sponsored by the Florida Yacht Brokers Association, and produced and managed by Show Management.
