Pontoons, also known as “party barges,” have been hot in the U.S. boat market for the last few years. We recently did a study of Boat Trader site visitors, counting every time they viewed a page with a pontoon model on it.

High-population states, such as Texas and Florida, were near the top, but the surprise winner was Georgia, with a 7.9 percent share of all pontoon views.

Proving that pontoons are popular in areas with shorter boating seasons, too, Midwestern states — Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio — held down the next three spots, followed by California and two more Southern states — North Carolina and Tennessee. Pennsylvania rounded out the top 10, just beating out Minnesota, Kentucky and Indiana.

The Boat Trader study counted views from Nov. 1, 2013, to Oct. 31, 2014.
