The aluminum boat segment has done better than most since the recession. This month, we look at which aluminum brands were most frequently searched by visitors to in the last 12 months, beginning in October 2011 and ending in September.

The top brands in this category specialize primarily in fishing and pontoon boats, and all are based in Minnesota, Missouri or Indiana. Few build exclusively from aluminum, but all of these brands make it a major part of their business.

At the top is Lund, which is owned by Brunswick and ranked 20th among all boat brands searched on Boat Trader. Visitors searched for Lund boats 87,973 times over the 12-month period. Also standing out from the others is Tracker, in second, with 65,965 searches. Lund sells four fiberglass models, and Tracker sells other glass and aluminum brands, which may contribute to the recognition of their names.

In third place, with 46,487 searches, Alumacraft leads a closely spaced group of brands, including Lowe, Starcraft and Crestliner. All of these brands build fishing boats, and Lowe and Starcraft build pontoon models as well.
