The shift to mobile computing among visitors to Boat Trader.com reached 45 percent of unique visitors in the second quarter this year. The chart at right shows the percentage of use of mobile phones, tab-lets and desktop computers in each of the last six quarters.

Although tablet use has remained relatively constant on a percentage basis, smartphone use has con-tinued to rise, taking a significant jump forward in the second quarter, with nearly 2 million unique visi-tors for the period.

What’s particularly notable is that 18 months earlier, mobile phone and tablet use among site visitors was roughly equal. In round figures, tablet visitors now average 1 million per quarter and smartphone visitors average 1.3 million or more.

Seasonal variation is not shown in this chart. The total number of unique visitors to Boat Trader’s web-site varies by quarter from 3.5 million in the fourth quarter to 6 million to 7 million in the second and third quarters.
