After last month’s look at recent increases in mobile searches at the Boat Trader website, this month we review the mobile operating systems that people who search for boats on the site use.

We compared the number of unique site visitors in July during each of the past three years, and as the table shows, Apple’s iOS was the clear leader with nearly 1.2 million this year.

The Android system made steady gains, however, doubling its usage to 521,000. By comparison, Microsoft’s Windows and Blackberry’s RIM system barely registered.

Which system is growing faster? On an absolute basis, iOS usage grew faster, gaining 368,000 users since 2013, compared with Android’s growth of 270,000.

On a percentage basis, however, Android gained more than 100 percent and the rate of growth for iOS was 44 percent. In terms of market share, Android took 7 percentage points from iOS, and in July of this year it had a 30 percent share, compared with 69 percent for iOS.
