Data Tracker: MasterCraft, Cobalt move up in search

For the third time in the last year, we have ranked the most searched boat brands on BoatTrader.com, and we’ve again found notable changes in the Top 10 brand-designated searches made by the website’s visitors in their 2.2 million searches in July.

Compared with their rank in July 2010, MasterCraft, Chaparral, Wellcraft and Cobalt have moved up. Bayliner, Baja, and Sea-Doo dropped, and the latter fell to 14th. Farther down in the top 20, Formula, Contender, Regal and Donzi made gains.

Compared with their most recent ranking in March, the biggest gains were seen by MasterCraft (sixth to second), Malibu (12th to seventh), Wellcraft (13th to ninth) and Cobalt (14th to 10th). Slipping were Ranger (second to eighth) and Grady-White (seventh to 13th). Visitors generally appear to do more searches for fishing boats in the spring and water-sports boats in the summer.

Looking at aggregated searches for the most recent 12 months, compared with the same tally made last November, trending upward were Cobalt (15th to 12th), Chaparral (eighth to sixth) and Boston Whaler (fourth to second). Sea Ray commands 487,088 searches for the last 12 months, a dominant number, compared with Whaler’s 212,503 searches.
