As spring weather spreads across the United States, the number of people searching for boats online grows. This year is no exception at BoatTrader.com, as the number of unique monthly visitors increased from 1.2 million in January to 1.6 million in April. But growing even faster has been the use of Boat Trader’s iPhone app to visit the site and conduct searches. Traffic already has surpassed the best month in 2010.

Last year was the first full year for the iPhone app, and through the peak summer months traffic grew to more than 14,000 unique monthly visitors. It dropped off near the end of the year, to slightly less than 10,000, then picked up to the 11,000-to-12,000 range in January and February.

With warmer weather, however, traffic is surging. In March, 14,328 visitors accessed BoatTrader.com via the app, a number that equaled 2010’s best month. In April, a record was set as 15,319 visitors used the app, an increase of 23 percent from April 2010.

Visitors via the app continue to send leads to dealers at similar and sometimes better rates than regular site visitors, with lead-percentage rates climbing from 6.3 percent in January to 8.9 percent in March.
