Data Tracker: Sea Ray leads, while Chaparral climbs

Publish date:

This month we look at the most-searched boat brands on and find significant changes in the top 20 brand-designated searches made by the website's visitors, who numbered more than 1.8 million in March.

Sea Ray remains at the top, with nearly twice the searches of any other for its iconic brand. But the contest to fill out the rest of the rankings has been anything but static. Ranger holds the No. 2 position, as it did a year ago, but last November and for the 12-month period beginning in April 2010 it was fourth, perhaps because of early spring enthusiasm for freshwater fishing.

Boston Whaler also gained, moving up from fourth to third during the past 12 months, displacing Bayliner, which slipped to No. 4. Making the biggest move in the top 10 was Chaparral, which climbed from No. 10 a year ago to seventh in November and has now moved up to fifth.

Other brands moving up in the top 20 search rankings were Yamaha (24th to ninth), Tracker (26th to 10th) and Sea-Doo (34th to 11th). Losing several places were Triton, Wellcraft, Contender, Skeeter, Mako and Lund.

Looking down the list at the top 50 searches, rising brands during the past year included Chris-Craft (23), Pro-Line (28), Sea Hunt (30) and Carolina Skiff (32). New to the top 50 since March 2010 are Hydra-Sports (27), Hurricane (40), Lowe (44) and Tahoe (47). n
